Hippo Brigade does Pageant of the Masters
I’ve never been to Pageant of the Masters, so when I recently got asked if I wanted to go I replied with a hearty, “YES PLEASE!” and then there might have been a fist pump, and the backwards running-man dance move, made popular in the late 80′s, and possibly the watching of a certain Arrested Development episode three times in a row.
You see, because Pageant of the Masters is sort of a big deal here in Orange County, and the great majority of you have seen it, you might have even volunteered in in, and I’m the only big fat loser who has somehow avoided it for 31 years of my life. And now, oh, yes, NOW I was finally going to join the ranks with all you superb and artistic minded Orange County residents.
But what I didn’t fully comprehend was that it was a media only even. Which means, I was completely out of my element.
Dur.
Huh?
Ookay…
In an instant I was transformed into a journalist, breaking the hard hitting news story along with 150 other media professionals.
And I was so glad I brought my all technical equipment along with me…plus my note pad for notes, and my recording device for interviews…and shoot! I didn’t bring any of that, instead I brought my iPhone and a granola bar.
I didn’t get to see the show in its entirety, but instead I got something cooler: a back stage look, which included watching the make up artists transform ordinary people into living masterpieces, the artists who paint the beautiful back drops, a sneak peek of all the amazing costumes, and of course, they put on a little show for us too.
Watching the models and the people that help them on stage was like watching a choreographed dance. Their movements were so disciplined, almost like liquid They even had a few child models that made my well behaved children look like unruly tyrants.
(I’m a dork)
It was thrilling to see all the inner workings of such an amazing show. It runs so smoothly and professionally, and it should, this year they are celebrating their 80th year.
And hopefully this will be the year that I see it for real.
Fingers crossed.
