I recently joined with the Anaheim Ducks and their booster club, the Die Hards, to participate in the 22nd annual CHOC Walk in the Park at the Disneyland Resort. The Die Hards stepped up in a big way and their team raised over $8,000 for CHOC Children’s. It’s no doubt that we miss our Ducks hockey, but it was fantastic to see the fans come out on that early morning for such a great cause.
This weekend, there is another great opportunity to show your love for hockey and CHOC. November 2nd – 4th THE RINKS – Irvine Inline will play host to the 6th Annual Give Blood Play Hockey Charity Inline Tournament.
Started by Mary Quayle while attending Mater Dei High School as a service project in honor of her grandfather who lost his battle to cancer, this charitable tournament has seen the donation of over 800 pints of blood and has raised over $175,000 for CHOC and their fight against pediatric cancer.
This year, over 90 teams ranging from youth to adult and beginner to advanced, will compete in the three-day inline tournament in Irvine. The goal of this year’s event is to bring their donation totals to 1000 pints of blood and $225,000. The organization plans on donating $50,000 to CHOC specifically for a medication station at the hospital.
So how can you help? Stop by the tournament this weekend to check out some great roller hockey, and while you’re there, there are a number of ways you can contribute.
Mobile blood units will be on hand for those who would like to donate blood. There will also be a silent auction and some great raffle prizes up for grabs. The Anaheim Ducks Street Team, along with the Power Players and Wild Wing will be there throughout the weekend. There will be plenty of delicious food vendors and food trucks providing some great eats, some of whom will donate part or all of their proceeds from the event to CHOC. All of those who donate blood will receive a free t-shirt and will be automatically entered into a drawing to win an Apple TV.
Great food, great entertainment, and great hockey – all for a great cause. Be sure to take some time out of your weekend to stop by the Give Blood Play Hockey Tournament at Irvine Inline and join the Anaheim Ducks and CHOC Children’s in the fight against pediatric cancer.
THE RINKS – Irvine Inline is located at 3150 Barranca Parkway, Irvine 92606
