FRIDAY FUNNIES: “Free Healthcare”

“Let Me Make It Better!”

MAMAs know a little something-something about healthcare…it’s called kissing boo boos and having a pack of Band-aids in your purse at all times!

Healthcare is a big issue and one that’s tough for Americans to sort through because it’s personal as well as political.   It stings just thinking about all of it…like putting anticeptic on an open cut. Everyone has an opinion on what’s best for the American “body” from birth control to obesity.  Who controls our health?  It’d be great if it was as easy as when we were kids and MAMA was there to fix all of the “boo boos.”

Let us know if you are “sick” and ”tired” of all the confusing rhetoric or just need some “r&r” from the topic altogether. We can’t just kiss this one better…it requires our politicians to “operate” together for the health and well-being of our country and our families!

FRIDAY FUNNIES: “Keeping The Balance”

“Keeping The Balance”

Happy Friday, MAMAs!

Moms know how hard it is to find the balance in our lives and keep it.  We’ve got love and marriage, kids and family, business and pleasure, budgets and binkies…MAMAs balance it all.  Sometimes we need some advice on how to keep all of our balls in the air.  O-MAMA is proud to announce that we are bringing our opinons on news and events from a moms’ perspective to Lifetime’s blog, The Balancing Act. Now MAMAs have another outlet in which our voices can be heard.

Remember to balance your weekend with fun family time- and laundry! Also, MAMAs…set your DVR’s for Tuesday, January 31st at 7 am, because we will be on The Balancing Act on Lifetime to talk about “Playground Politics.”  Your video submissions may be included in the program, so tune in!

FRIDAY FUNNIES: “The State Of Our Union”

“Keeping It Together”

Happy Friday MAMAs!

The President is gearing up for his State of the Union address.  We need an update on the state of the state, and we’d like to hear the news right “from the horse’s mouth.”  We get media spin on everything from the GOP primaries to the economy, but we really need to hear some truth.  This is the one speech where the bi-partisan bickering and “fighting in front of the kids” needs to be put aside, so we can get an update from the Commander in Chief about how America is doing.

Moms know that communication with our kids is key to building trust and a healthy family unit.  We constantly have to be “checking in” with those close to us to make sure everyone is on the same page and moving in the right direction-together!

The bottom line is that the President’s speech must translate to a happy home for our family…our American family.  A place where we feel respected, valued, loved and appreciated…where we are comfortable, happy, healthy, safe and secure.  Because if our house is broken (or we no longer have a roof over our head) then we won’t be able to focus on much else. We wake up every day and we have a choice…to work at it, or not. Like Abraham Lincoln once said, “A house divided against itself cannot stand.” Good advice for us as moms and for us as a nation.  Because in both regards, if we are committed to making our union work, for better or for worse, then we will be okay.

FRIDAY FUNNIES: “A Promise Is A Promise”

“A Promise Is A Promise”

Happy Friday, MAMAs!

The GOP candidates are racing towards the presidency…in Iowa, New Hampshire and soon, South Carolina.  Newt Gingrich is back in the news as one of those vying for the nomination.  He is one of the “fathers” of the Contract with America, which promised to shrink government, lower taxes, and encourage entrepreneurship among other things.  As the race heats up, lots of promises are being made about what the candidates will deliver, if elected.    As the election gets closer, we are sure to see politicians at their best -espousing American strength and idealism, and at their worst, attacking one another’s characters and commitment to the nation.  Enough spin to make all of our heads spin!

But, one thing we know for sure is that MAMAs know when we make a promise to our kids, we have to keep it, otherwise we lose our cred.  So, just for fun, we created a pledge that Democratic, Independent and Republican MAMAs alike can rally around – take our Pledge to America’s Kids and make a pinky swear promise to “usher in a new era of [parental] responsibility”:

This document verifies that I pinky swear promise to do my very  best to “usher in a new era of parental responsibility.” I admit  that I am good, but I am not perfect, so I reserve the right  to…(click to read & sign)

Our kids, and our country, need Opinionated MAMAs to stay engaged in our country’s most important conversations. Thanks MAMAs.

FRIDAY FUNNIES: “Attention Grabbers”

“Attention Grabbers”
Happy Friday MAMAs!
When our KID-Os want attention, they whine, stand on their head, hop on one foot, make lots of noise, throw spit wads and generally act up…they pull out all of the stops!  We see the same behavior in our politicians – doing whatever they need to do to get our attention.  It might be entertaining for a MOMent, but if we give politicians the attention they want for all the outrageous things they say and do, they will continue giving us non-sense.
Just like with our kids, we should not reinforce bad behavior and only reward the good behavior, right MAMAS!?

FRIDAY FUNNIES: “Happy New Year!”

Happy New Year MAMAs!

Nothing like a new year to put the past behind and look to the future.  Most of us look forward to the fresh start that comes at the stroke of midnight – a brand new year full of possibilities.  So much promise wrapped up in one MOMent.

As moms, we know it is really about all the delicious little MOMents throughout the year.  We always have a lot on our plates, so maybe “don’t bite off more than we can chew” should be our party line this year?  In 2011, set realistic expectations.

Let’s give ourselves a break from outlandish resolutions and just keep it real and do what we can do – throw out the granny panties, count left-overs as making dinner, don’t scream at the kids every day. Let’s cut ourselves some slack this year and just resolve to do the best we can for our families and ourselves.

In our weekly opinion poll, more than half of you said you wanted to be the best mom and “the best you that you can”…that’s a lot.  So, let that be enough MAMAS.

Starting fresh is something we all can revel in at midnight (yes – if you are on the West Coast, New York New Years counts!)…so, share a toast with family & friends to ring in the new year and remember to take it day by day!

Wishing you all a very happy, healthy 2012!

FRIDAY FUNNIES: “Santa Is Coming To Town”

“Santa Is Coming To Town”

Happy Friday MAMAs!

Santa is making his final preparations and so are we, MAMAs! It’s a busy time of year and our lists might seem huge, but some how, some way MAMAs always make it happen!  And, if there are a few things that don’t get checked off…no matter…our KID-Os don’t have to get every single thing on their list.  They’ll be o.k.  Instill in them the true meaning of Christmas and the spirit of giving, not just receiving.  Stay checked-in with family and friends and keep a happy, hopeful outlook this time of year.  ‘Tis the season, after all!

Please share your holiday traditions, and if you are in a snarky mood this week, check out our “Has Santa Been Jingling His Bells” opinion on who’s been NAUGHTY and the “Fantasy on NICE” article that quotes Opinionated MAMAs in the Chicago Tribune, because let’s face it, sometimes we have to fake it.

Happy Holidays, MAMAs!

FRIDAY FUNNIES: “Home For The Holidays”

“There’s No Place Like Home”

Happy Friday MAMAs!

Our troops are coming home from Iraq-just in time for the holidays.

MAMAs know how to “keep the home fires burning” and make sure that all loved ones who have been far away receive a warm welcome back to the comforts of home and family.

We will give our troops an especially warm homecoming after all that they have done for our nation.

MAMAS – what do you think our country should do to welcome our troops home?  What are you going to do?

Please read our post A NEW DAWN: Combat Troops Leave Iraq

Please read our Opinion “Between a Rock and A Hard Place.”

Please visit the MILITARY MAMAS chat room

Have a great weekend MAMAs.

FRIDAY FUNNIES: Making Lists

“We’re Making Our Lists”

Happy Friday MAMAs!

This is the time of year for lists, that’s for sure!  Our KID-Os have their wish lists, you have your shopping lists, the media has their lists of the top this and that, so O-MAMA is making our list of the Top 10 Political MAMAS of the year, and of course, we want your opinions!  Tell us who you think should make this year’s list…here’s what you came up with last year!

Oh what fun!  Moms, though, tend to have more important things on their list than Barbie, fame, fortune or material possessions.  We wish for those intangibles like putting a roof over our kids’ heads, enough money to pay the bills, good health, a little peace and a lot of love.  We usually wish for things for our families and loved ones, not ourselves.

So, don’t let this holiday go by without putting some “me time” on your list.  No disrespect to Santa, but moms have an important job to do 365 days a year and we work hard to make our kids’ wishes come true every day, without all the fun and frivolity that comes wrapped in a big bow.  In your spare time (ha-ha), please read our opinion “Nobody’s Perfect”and check out our blooper video – yep!  Tis the season.

Enjoy all the little MOMents this holiday season!  (-;
