Happy Friday MAMAs!

We need to take care of our Mother Earth MAMAS, and teach our kids how to do the same.  Our kids learn from us how to reduce, re-use and recycle.  There are lots of ways we can set a good example.

This Earth Day weekend, spend some time getting back to nature, and check out our opinion and video on the environment.  They’re sure to spark some talk around your kitchen table!

“It’s taxing!”

MAMAS – Sure, the kids can be taxing at times, but it’s time well spent!  (-:  The time we have to spend doing everything else, well…that’s another story?!

So, now that it’s the most taxing time of the year, the good news is that federal income taxes are the lowest they’ve been since the 1950′s! The bad news is that it’s time to pay up again…and we have to be a mathematician/lawyer to figure out how to fill out the tax forms (even the 1040EZ forms aren’t easy?!).  It takes too much time!

But MAMAs, if you like playing around with numbers and you want to make sure you’re getting all your credits from Uncle Sam, check out the Tax Calculator.  And, if you wanna know where your tax dollars go, check out the Federal Taxpayer Receipt.  They’re actually kind of fun?!

But at some point, put away the calculator and shoe box of receipts and spend some quality time with the KID-Os.  Have a great weekend MAMAS!

“Champions Of Our Kids”

This month, the basketball court hasn’t been the only place we’ve witnessed “March Madness.”   We’ve been watching the Trayvon Martin shooting drama unfold, which has brought  racism to the forefront of our national dialogue.  We’ve been watching the Supreme Court grapple with the Constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act, which has resurrected healthcare debate.  Kind of makes you want to hunker down and watch a little basketball, instead of the nightly news!

The bigger issues are relevant to our families.  We need be the champions of our kids, to make sure that the America they inherit has not gone “mad.”  And, more importantly,  we need to teach our kids to respect others and their own health.  They need to know that we love them, so they are able to love others and themselves.

This weekend, enjoy your kids and let them know you think they are the champs of the family!

“Find your true North”

A Florida teen was shot dead this week, allegedly by a neighborhood watch volunteer.  As a result, the country is talking about racism and gun control, which is a good thing. It’s a good thing because it shows that our nation has a strong collective idea of what our true North is – regardless of race, we are united behind our common values and common sense.  It’s simply about right and wrong.

Ever hear “Oh, kids these days…they don’t do this…they are into that…” Guess what?  If we want kids who know right from wrong…kids who are kind and secure…with nice manners…and good judgement, MAMAs need to make sure that happens, so they grow up to be confident adults with sound judgement. We are the ones who guide them and point them in the right direction. Consistently. Patiently. Responsibly. So, when they feel lost, they will always be able to find their way home.

We need to surround our kids with love and security that point them in the right direction.  That way, they can avoid all the pitfalls of racism and fear and other things we see in the news – stories of people who have lost their way, who leap to the wrong conclusions just because of the way someone looks.

Our kids and our country need some direction right now – MAMAs need to be the true North they can count on, today and always

“Attention Grabbers”

“Happy Friday, MAMAs!

When our KID-Os want attention, they whine, stand on their head, hop on one foot, make lots of noise, throw spit wads and generally act up…they pull out all of the stops!

We see the same behavior in the “news” media.  This week, arrests have been make as the News of the World investigation continues.  Phones were apparently hacked, bribes were made and lot of evidence was destroyed at Ruper Murdoch’s News of the World, because they thought that’s what they needed to do to get us the “juice.”

When the media want us to watch, they run stories about Kim Kardashian’s 72 day marriage and Justin Beiber’s baby-not his baby-baby – watch me, watch me.  It might be entertaining for a MOMent, but if we give the media the attention they want for all the silly stories they run, they will continue giving us non-sense (and scaling walls and taping phones to get even juicer juice).  How about some good old-fashioned reporting of the facts, instead of creating the news or hyping the infotainment?

Just like with our kids, we should not reinforce bad behavior and only reward the good behavior!?

“Super Star”

Happy Friday, MAMAs!

This week, our country flexed its super powers in the Middle East, we made it through Super Tuesday and celebrated International Women’s Day. Super duper!

That’s right, all over the globe, women are taking action to fight injustice and make the world a better place.  We advocate for our rights, our children, our communities, and our countries.  We do this because we know when we use our collective voice for good, we can solve any problem.

MAMAs have super powers – when we need to, we can leap tall buildings with a single bound, be more powerful than a locomotive and faster than a speeding bullet.  This is going to be the year of the woman.
