One of the most important things to consider when you’re into fitness is what you’re wearing. And we’re not just talking about looking cute (although that’s definitely a plus!). Whether you’re a runner, walker, Cross Fit-er, or gym class regular, you want clothes that not only fit well, but that are also: A. comfy B. breathable C. durable and most of all, D. affordable.
As a runner myself, I need clothes that are light weight and breathable, and some that are preferably attractive as well. A girl’s gotta look good even while exercising, right? Wear my husband’s old gym tee? Not for this girl! And just because you choose to throw on some pink or “girly” gear for your workout it doesn’t mean you won’t be a beast out on the playing field.
Macy’s activewear for women has a lot of great options for the active woman who wants comfort, durability, and style. From dri-fit tops to yoga pants to sports bras, and featuring brands like Nike, The North Face, Ideology, Puma and more, you’ll definitely find just what you need in active wear.
I recently received this Ideology long-sleeve V-neck active top, which I absolutely love for running. It’s lightweight, so it doesn’t bulk me down when I run, and it’s also form-fitting but not uncomfortably tight. It even has small thumb holes so the sleeve covers some of your hands, keeping them nice and toasty.
I also love this Ideology long-sleeve animal print track jacket. This jacket is a bit heavier than the long sleeved tee, but it’s perfect for those colder early morning runs or walks, or for a stylish add on when going to and from the gym. It also is form-fitting and flattering, has the thumb holes, and had roomy pockets for stashing keys and even your phone. It definitely keeps the heat in on colder days.
Macy’s has always been a favorite place of mine to shop for shoes, accessories, handbags-and now active wear. Who knew they could get even better?

Halloween is undoubtedly one of my favorite times of year! Fall is now officially here, there are treats galore, and of course, the smiles on the faces of little princesses and superheroes are enough to make even the most reluctant participant want to join in the fun.
I have a young child, and, like most parents with young children, I want to celebrate the festivities of Halloween without making it scary. When Knott’s Berry Farm invited my family and I to check out their NON-scary, kid-friendly “Snoopy’s Costume Party” at Camp Spooky, I was more than excited to take him and my nephew. This daytime event has many fun and kid-friendly activities and events that celebrate the Halloween season in an upbeat and non-frightening way. Here, a few reasons why you should take the kids and go!:
1. Snoopy’s Costume Contest and Parade
Kids can participate and show off their Halloween costume threads in this friendly competition for prizes and the chance to walk in spirited procession throughout Camp Spooky. Plus, the characters are dressed in their costumes as well, so have your cameras ready for plenty of photo-ops!
2. The Great Pumpkin Hay Bale Maze
What would fall and Halloween be without pumpkins and a maze? This maze offers the chance for kids to explore the hay bales and cornstalks on their own, as the maze is kid-sized and easy to navigate. Kids can also expect to find some “sweet” treats along the way.
3. The Creepy Crawly Critter Cave
Stop in here to listen to a Knott’s park naturalist introduce kids to all the creepy, crawly creepers that run around during Halloween time.
4. Scary Stories at the Lodge
Kids and families alike will enjoy listening to a storyteller tell some of the silliest and funniest Halloween stories ever heard!
5. Spooky Ookie Scavenger Hunt
And of course, with Halloween time comes plenty of…..treats! Pick up a treat bag and a guide for some clues to help kids navigate Camp Spooky to find five treat stations where they can load up on some Halloween goodies.
There are many other reasons to stop in to check out not just Camp Spooky but Knott’s this fall. Great and thrilling rides, close access from anywhere in the OC, and a great price make this a must stop for families.
Snoopy’s Costume Party at Camp Spooky is open weekends in October during daytime hours. Check out knotts.com for more info.

Silly question: do you love gorgeous clothing and accessories? (Obvious answer: yes!)
Next silly question: do you love gorgeously affordable clothing and accessories? (Even more obvious answer: yes and yes!)
Then you’ll be ecstatic to hear that The Outlets at Orange, touted as the OC’s “only outlet shopping destination”, will soon welcome LOFT outlet and Windsor to their mix of fashionable shops, set to open late in the fall of this year!
LOFT brand is a more casual, yet still chic and sleek extension of the Ann Taylor brand. The store will feature women’s apparel, footwear, and accessories, and will open near the Banana Republic store at The Outlets at Orange. I love LOFT’s casual-dressy look, perfect for a day at work, and with a few accessory changes their clothing makes for an easy transition to a nice evening out. Plus, LOFT also carries petite sizes! I’m 5′ 1 1/2″ tall (yes, the half inch counts!), and not having the added cost of needing my pants hemmed makes shopping here worthwhile.
Windsor, geared toward a younger, more hipster-like crowd (think a fancier version of Forever 21), also carries a wide variety of on-trend apparel and accessories. Looking for a great LBD and/or cocktail dress for a night out? Head here for some great choices. Windsor will open between Buffalo Wild Wings and Guitar Center, also in late fall 2012.
In addition to LOFT outlet and Windsor, The Outlets at Orange boasts an impressive (and tempting) array of retailers and more, including:
Located at the intersection of the I-5, the 22 and 57, and minutes from Disneyland, The Outlets at Orange is definitely a must-stop for shopaholics and fashionistas alike.
As New York Fashion week kicks off and the world’s best designers pull out their newest Fall collections, you can literally feel the anticipation in the air. Who doesn’t love boots, the deep, rich autumn tones, and the scarves, jackets, and sweaters galore?!

Victoria Gardens is located in Rancho Cucamonga, just a short drive away from the OC, and this Thursday they are hosting these two not-to-be-missed, exclusive fashion events.
Created in 2009 and well-known as FASHION’S BIGGEST NIGHT, Fashion’s Night Out is a global initiative that takes place in stores and shopping centers all over the world, a huge event that celebrates style, restores consumer confidence, features exclusive discounts, celebrity appearances, lively entertainment, and puts the joy and passion back into fashion.
Victoria Gardens is proud to be one of the hosts of this year’s Fashion’s Night Out event; exclusive discounts throughout the shopping center, live entertainment, and more are set to entice fashion divas all over the IE, OC, and beyond. This year the event at Victoria Gardens is hosted by Ellen K from 102.7 KIIS FM.

I attended last year’s Fashion’s Night Out Event , and it was entirely too much fun; picture a night full of style, beautiful clothing, accessories, swag, and all things fabulous.
An exclusive VIP Insiders Lounge will also be featured at the event, where insiders can partake in a special meet and greet with YouTube Beauty Guru Sonia Castaneda and well-known fashion blogger Erica Meek Paonessa of Style Minx, where you can also get beauty and style tips from these industry experts. The lounge will also include swag bags and a dessert bar, as well as beauty stations with mini makeovers, henna tattoos and eyebrow threading.

Not only is Victoria Gardens hosting Fashion’s Night Out, but in addition that same evening the live grand finale of the Project Style competition will also be taking place. For months now this online style competition has been going on as fans voted for their fashion favorites, leaving 5 local finalists to compete in the live style-off event, including the four winners of the initial rounds and one wild card winner. The contestants will have one hour to create an outfit made up of items from Victoria Gardens’ fashion retailers using a $150 gift card. A panel of judges will then critique each outfit and choose one winner, who will be awarded the grand prize – a $1,000 gift card to Victoria Gardens. The winner will also be entered for a chance to win the national grand prize, a trip to New York Fashion Week to attend a fashion show with Project Runway’s Nick Verreos. (Not too shabby, huh?)

Fashion, Beauty, lights, makeup, music, food-what could be more perfect?
Backpacks, books, lunches, and all things school can be seen everywhere you go, with kids heading back to school in droves, eager to kick off yet another school year.
This year my own son started school, preschool to be exact, and it was a bittersweet moment as I saw my little guy go from being a baby to a big kid before my very eyes. Being the stylish-yet-budget conscious mom that I am, I knew that: A. I wanted to send my son off to school well dressed for the occasion (because you’ll always have pictures of the “first day” outfit, right?) and B. I wanted find clothes that were durable, comfy, and best of all, affordable.
Enter The Children’s Place. I absolutely adore their clothes, not only because they carry clothes that have the ideal preppy/rocker look that I adore in boys’ clothing, but also because I know their stuff lasts. Wash after wash (which happens often when you have a rambunctious preschooler), wear after wear, these clothes hold their own and last, and they’re affordable as well.

I have to say, I was amazed at how affordable the clothing was at The Children’s Place. Really. I scored two polos, two tees , two pairs of jeans, and 3 pairs of socks for less than $50 in store, then I went and ordered some more online that day (I wanted to browse more sizes/styles online)and got 6 more shirts and 3 pairs of shorts for a little over $50. That’s definitely a steal! And as any mom knows, low-cost, high-quality clothes are essential for growing kids. Promos going on now at The Children’s Place:
Labor Day Sale: 30% off school uniforms, $2.99 graphic tees, half off original prices and more

Nestled within the streets of a quiet, suburban North San Diego County residential area lies the Rancho Bernardo Inn (RBI for short) , a serenely tranquil and picturesque resort and spa that is almost like a hidden gem. And by hidden, I do mean hidden; driving down the streets of the neighborhood we suddenly saw signs for the resort at the end of the street seemingly out of nowhere. But this resort is definitely not one to be missed.
My family and I recently took a weekend stay at RBI to check out their “Kids Rule, Parents Drool” package, a special experience the staff at RBI has put together to celebrate the magic of summer, swimming, sun, and just being a kid. Indeed, when we arrived Friday night we learned that kids ruled, as my son was greeted with a shovel and pail packed with goodies, complete with his name on the front. He beamed as he already began to feel like a special guest.

We stayed in the rooms near the Santiago pool, which I would definitely stay in again, as the room was spacious, open, and even had a small private patio area outside the sliding door that gave us direct access to the pool. You could hear the sounds of children laughing, playing, and squealing in delight.

After unpacking we headed to the “Cool Out Lounge”, one of the designated activity rooms RBI set aside for their younger guests as a part of the Kids Rule package. This activity room was geared more towards the younger RBI crowd, and my son, who is 3, wasted no time at tackling the preschooler-friendly board games, books, puzzles, and coloring tables set out for the kids. For older kids there’s also the “Amped Lounge” with a Wii, games, and other age-appropriate activites. Afterward we went and picked up a free smoothie for my son, as kids who are part of the “Kids Rule” package receive a cool blue wrist band upon arrival that, when shown to staff, entitles them to free food, drinks, and special privileges throughout the property.

After a bit of playtime, we headed to Veranda, RBI’s fireside lounge and restaurant. Veranda is beautiful, as it features a large outside patio seating area with a full, glorious view of RBI’s 18-hole championship golf-course, an outdoor fireplace, lounge chairs, and even live music to really set a relaxing tone. The food was light, fresh, and delicious, and of course, the perks of a complimentary kids’ entrée courtesy of the “Kids Rule” package didn’t hurt a bit either.
Back to the pool it was after our dinner, and this time we shimmied quickly into our suits to check out the “Dive-In Movie and S’Mores”. Kids are invited to take in some night swimming at the Santiago pool, and every night there is a different family movie shown. There are tables laid out near the pool with beverages, popcorn, and all the fixings to make s’mores, and small fire pits really get you in the mood for a poolside campout. My son was overjoyed to be able to stay up latet than his usual bedtime, and after a night of swimming he happily continued his “campout” in our room, as RBI also provides an in-room tent for all kids part of the Kids Rule package.
Breakfast at Veranda the next morning was delicious, offering a full breakfast buffet for adults and a kid-friendly waffle station; my son chose to put M&M’s on his waffles, along with chocolate sprinkles, no less. After breakfast we split off a bit; my husband and son headed off to check out the mini-golf while I headed to RBI’s “The Spa” for one of their Made Fresh Daily treatments. Moms, don’t be afraid to let the rest of your family off on their own for a bit so you can indulge! With a gorgeous, exclusive outdoor saline pool, private treatment casitas, and a lovely relaxation lounge, you won’t regret taking some time for yourself.
RBI Spa Pool Cabanas. Image Credit: RBI/JC Resorts.
The rest of the day consisted of some more lounging by the pool, eating, another trip back to the Cool Out Lounge, and a “treasure hunt”, where kids are invited to find all 25 of RBI’s fountains around the property, and get stamps upon finding them to receive a prize. Finally, it was time to pack up and leave. I would definitely recommend RBI as not only an excellent place to vacation with family, but a place to visit on an adults-only trip, a great place to get married, have an event, play golf, etc.
And the ultimate judge of a mini-vacation well spent? My son. When I told him our stay was over and it was time to go, he looked and said, “Already? But I don’t wanna leave.”
Nicely done, RBI. We’ll be back again soon.

A candlelit dinner, delicious dining under the stars, and the rhythmic sound of ocean waves crashing against the shore, with gorgeous ocean views literally right next to you? Sounds amazing, doesn’t it? Splashes Restaurant at the Surf and Sand Resort in Laguna Beach delivers this and much more.
The Surf and Sand Resort boasts an exquisite location as its home, resting right along Laguna Beach’s beautiful shoreline. While on a recent date night out with my husband to Splashes at the Surf and Sand Resort, I was immediately taken by the quaint California-coastal décor, with shades of aqua, blue-green, and other ocean-inspired hues dominating the color palette. Cozy cabanas and plentiful seaside seating also added to the coastal living ambiance of the resort, and you can’t help but immediately feel the laid-back atmosphere of the hotel when you walk in.
Splashes restaurant itself offers not only great food, but spectacular ocean-front views. And when I say ocean-front, I truly mean ocean-front, as only the low outer walls of the resort and a glass partition separate you from the sand. You can sit back with a glass of wine and enjoy a beautiful sunset while gazing out at the waves, a mere 25 feet below.
Grilled Shrimp Appetizer
Our dining experience kicked off with an appetizer plate of Grilled Shrimp paired with passion fruit mustard, avocado and bacon, a fresh new summer menu item. Each dish is prepared with the freshest, local, and most flavorful ingredients in the area. I wasn’t sure at first what passion fruit mustard was, but by the end I couldn’t get enough of the sweet glaze that garnished the plump grilled shrimp we were served. A crisp glass of Riesling complimented the dish for me perfectly.
Seared Scallops with Farro Risotto
Moving on to the main, I chose a plate of Seared Scallops with Farro Risotto, cucumber, orange and ginger, while my husband dines on a Surf-and-Turf special of the evening. Both dishes were delicious, and perfect for a beachside meal: indulgent without being too heavy. Dessert (always my favorite part) consisted of a “Chocolate Cappuccino” (a blend of my two loves in life-chocolate and coffee-divine!), and Strawberry Shortcake followed for my husband. A freshly-brewed cup of coffee and the backdrop of the now starlit sky against the horizon made our night out at Splashes blissfully complete.
For those wanting to extend the evening further, check out Splashes Bar, offering up a more laid-back atmosphere, where you can enjoy plates like fish tacos and a great angus burger, plus creative cocktails. And stop in at 15FiftyFive, Surf and Sand’s outdoor lounge featuring daily specials created just for summer months:
Monday – Paella Party at Splashes with House-made recipes
Tuesday through Wednesday – Lobster Bake Night at Splashes
Monday through Thursday – Dynamic Duo: Gourmet burger paired with half bottle of wine, craft beer or signature cocktail at Splashes Bar
Thursday – Chef Cooking Demo at 15fiftyfive
Friday – Live, local music at 15fiftyfive

RA Sushi Bar Restaurants at Tustin and Huntington Beach are known throughout the OC for delicious food, amazing happy hour specials, great people, and a hip, trendy vibe. And now, both locations just got even better.
This summer RA launched an updated dinner and drinks menu, adding a bevy of fresh and delicious new appetizers, main dishes, and cocktail selections that will leave guests wanting to come back for more. In addition, RA has also kicked off a “Reverse Happy Hour” to complement the new menu, available at both OC locations, featuring late night food and drink specials for those night owls out there.
Recently my husband and I visited the RA Sushi Tustin location to sample the new menu, drinks, and specials, and, as always, the visit did not disappoint!
Here are a few reasons why you should add RA to your list of places to check out this summer:
1. Cocktails, Anyone?
RA new menu cocktails
New summer cocktails, like the Strawberry Saketini and the Coconut Moshi Mojito, make for a deliciously refreshing indulgence. Three new “skinny” cocktails, like the Cucumber Collins, the Kiwi-berry Kiss, and the Lycheetini, have also now graced the menu, making it easier to enjoy extra downtime with friends without the extra calories.
2. The Warm-Up
Edamame Dip
Delicious appetizers like the Garlic Edamame or Bonfire Shrimp give a new spin on traditional shrimp and edamame by adding more exciting flavors. And the Edamame Dip? To die for! (You may even want to order two of them instead of ordering a full meal!)
3. The Main Event
Salmon with Green Beans
Drunken Black Mussels
New shareable plates like the Holy Shishito Chicken (Asian breaded chicken lightly fried and sautéed in a chili sesame sauce), and the Drunken Clams or Drunken Black Mussels (steamed in sake and sautéed in garlic and seasoned with soy sauce) are just a few of the highlights. For lighter fare choose the Salmon with Green Beans, or the popular Asian Chicken Wings in new flavors like Sesame Garlic, Black Pepper Teriyaki, or Chili Ponzu.
4. Best. Tacos. Ever!
RA-ckin’ Shrimp Tacos
If you try nothing else, try the Crispy Asian Tacos. Held together by a rice paper shell and coming in 5 different varieties, this was my absolute favorite menu item. Light, and crisp yet so flavorful, you can easily eat a plateful, or two, like I did! Try the Spicy Tuna, Chicken, Spicy Salmon, Crispy White Fish, or, my personal favorite, the RA-ckin’ Shrimp tacos. You will not be disappointed.
5. Tuesday at 10 p.m.? Why not?
RA has been known for their great happy hour specials, running currently Monday –Saturday from 3-7 p.m. Now get ready for Reverse Happy Hour; RA Sushi in Huntington Beach will now offer happy hour specials Monday-Saturday from 10 p.m. to midnight, and RA Sushi in Tustin will offer the same food and drink specials, Monday-Thursday, also from 10 pm to midnight. The Reverse Happy Hour menu will include more than 35 sushi, appetizer, and tapas selections, ranging anywhere from $2.25 to $7.25, and the menu will also feature an array of beer, wine, and signature cocktails. Favorites on the menu include the Tootsy Maki, Viva Las Vegas Roll, Sake Sangria, and Mango Martini, among others.
Japanese fusion meets amazing food, cocktails, and a cool atmosphere you won’t find elsewhere at RA Sushi Bar Restaurant. Stop in and visit their locations in either Tustin or Huntington Beach to check out these delicious new menu items, and see just why you’ll soon be back.
